No-Knead Cheddar Bread


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • ¼ cup chopped chives (optional)
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Method

Preparation

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Combine flour, salt, yeast, and chives.
  2. Add cheese and water. Stir until a shaggy dough forms. The mixture will look messy and wet.

Proofing

  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Let sit at room temperature for 12-18 hours.
  2. After proofing, the dough will be bubbly and loose.

Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Place a heavy Dutch oven with a lid inside to heat.
  2. Carefully transfer the dough to a hot Dutch oven. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  3. Bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove the lid, and bake for

    an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Serving

Let bread cool for 1 hour before slicing. Serves 6-8.

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days
